968. Intention Is A Form Of Energy

Marsh Buice Season 9 Episode 968

Send us a text

Every time you’ve been successful, it wasn’t luck — it was intention.
In this episode, I talk about how focus —not fortune —fuels your progress.

Bethenny Frankel wrote, “Intention is a form of energy,” and she’s right. The times I’ve felt scattered, drained, or stuck weren’t because I was cursed with bad luck — it was because I wasn’t being intentional.

When you’re intentional, you simplify your life. You tune out the noise and lock in on the signal. You start to see the leaks — the people, habits, and distractions that drain your energy — and you plug them. You stop chasing luck and start creating momentum.

This episode is about bringing you back — back to focus, back to clarity, back to the thing that truly matters. Because when you can explain why you do what you do to yourself, you don’t have to explain it to anyone else.

Be intentional about being intentional.
 Focus is fuel.
 Luck follows focus.

all right, 3, 2, 1. Let's get it today. Let's talk about being intentional. And you know, I got to thinking about this this morning as it relates to intention. The reason why you've been successful in different areas of your life is because you're intentional. You are laser-like focused, and even though life tried to pull at you. Throw interference at you and step back in. You know, a lot of times when you set a goal, you know, it seems smooth and easy at first, and then life kicks back in and it disrupts everything, and then you get off track. Uh, it, it happens. But you know, when you have intention, think about let's, let's just use weight loss. Think about, or lemme just use, you, use me when I've lost 70 pounds. I, I, it wasn't because I was lucky and it wasn't some secret diet or anything like that. I wasn't even really super strict. I was intentional. I just, everything I thought about everything I did was, was based on that goal. And so intention just ruled the day. And then if you think about all the times. Where you're scattered, where you just, I mean, you're busy, but you're just not productive. I mean, think about those times. How intentional are you? You're not at all. As a matter of fact, you, I mean, you don't, you don't know where the days go. You, it's like things are getting worse. It, it's, it's not because you got some sort of bad juju or anything like that. It's because you have no intention. You've lost your focus, and you really don't know what you're, what you're gunning for. And the idea that sparked this whole thing today was from Bethenny Frankel's book. I read it this morning, my random reading, and she said, intention is a form of energy. And I was like, that was the spark right there. I was like, stop reading. See, I read for ideas. I don't, I I don't necessarily just read to read. I read for something that triggers me, triggers my soul, makes me pick up my head and grab the pen and be like, wait a minute. And that's so true, isn't it? Intention is a form of energy. It is. And if you think about when you're intentional. Think about any, any time in your life, your faith, your family, your fitness, your finances, your fulfillment. I mean, you think about any area of your life where you were just, I mean, you were nailing it even though there was a bunch of noise. You were so tuned in to the signal. And your eye was on that prize, your eye was on the result and you were like, fuck this man. Come hell or high water, I ain't getting off this. I'm on it. And it, it almost becomes laughable because life throws all these kind of curve balls in there. And even though you were tired you actually felt energetic. It was like, it just recycled. So yes, you had these, these strains and you had these pains and you had these doubts. But bro, it was something like, it's something in, you know, it's hard to almost contextualize until you actually experience it. But when you have that. And you have that intention. Oh my God. It's like that, that that energy just perpetuates and it gets stronger and stronger and stronger. And that's why when I read that, I'm like, bro, that is so true. Because the times that I've lacked intention is because I was spread too thin. Things were too complex. I was like all over the place. It was like this wildfire. And I was using a little cup to put out a wildfire over here, and then there was something else to start over here. And before you know it, man, I'm running all over the place. I'm tired, I'm frustrated. I'm not making progress. I'm actually regressing. And then that just perpetuates. That just feeds itself. And before you know it, you're just a bonfire of mediocrity. It's because of. The lack of intention, and so that's what I wanna bring. The intention of this episode is to make you more intentional. The beautiful thing is there's nothing you gotta go do other than what's the thing that like yearns at you? What's the thing you wish you were better at? And you bring intention to that, a focus to that. Not only is it going to simplify your life. You're gonna maximize the results you are because you're not running around everywhere. You're just like locked back in. And what I like about this, well, lemme just read to you what she wrote. She goes on to say that when you're intentional about an idea. Okay. When you're intentional about an idea, you become more open to creative and unconventional ways of bringing it to life. Think about that. When, when you're intentional about an idea, I mean, bro, you're like obsessive about it. You're thinking about it, and so this is how you get creative. See, when you lack intention, then you're, you're, you're a victim. You're, you're bringing up all these excuses. You're looking at everybody else's advantages. You're taking stock of your disadvantages, and you're just like, man, I mean, if I had it like him, I'd be, and, and so you're not intentional and so you're this victim and you just park in life. But when you're in intentional about an idea. Remember she said idea, not ideas. So when you're intentional about an idea, that's all you're thinking about, you actually get creative. So when you lack something, your lack is your leverage. And you get curious. And instead of making a bunch of defeating statements, you're wondering like, Hmm, you, you get scrappy, you figure it out, and you use unconventional ways. Of bringing that thing to life, the unconventional ways. See, uh, Bethany said later on in that chapter, she said, sometimes, man, you gotta look at things upside down. Sometimes you look at unconventional ways, meaning that when you go out into the world, the world is your library. You're actually pulling from, you're, you're looking at unconventional ideas, You're pulling from other businesses, from books. From a video, from a short, I mean, you're, you're coming across all kind of different stuff. You're so receptive to every, it's almost as if the world, everything that you see that day in the world just lines up with what you're already doing. It's the wickedest thing in the world, man. But I can tell you this, like when I'm intentional about bringing an episode, I read for 15 minutes. I find that idea that snags my soul. Then I write about it. I write one to two pages. I said, today, man, no more than two pages. We're not gonna go on down the feeder road here. We're gonna stick to it. You're gonna be intentional about two pages. What do you get outta this? And then I go work out and I'm thinking about this. And then I now, as soon as I get off this mic, I'm going to go live it. Bro, I've se I've, I've seen this happen time and time again since I've been doing this, since 2017, and it's like I step out the door, my mind is primed. I've already won the day because I took care of me, and all of a sudden things just line up exactly with what I was just talking about. I'm like, oh my God. I'll come across a video, I'll come across another passage in a book. Somebody will walk by and say something to me. We will have a conversation. Boom. It just happens. It's, it's almost like you're lucky. And you know, while I believe in luck, I believe that luck is a result of intention. See so many times. Let's go back to you. The times that you were successful, the times that you've won in life. You weren't trying to be lucky, you were just being intentional, and as a result, luck stepped in. I mean, you got better results than you expected. Faster results than you expected. You just happen to meet somebody who can help you get to the next level. I mean, uh, all these kind of coincidences, these god winks, I like to call 'em if that, it wasn't because you were lucky, it was because you were intentional and as a reward, life said she blew a little luck dust on you. That's the only reason. And the people who are trying to chase luck, the windfalls, the come on man, help a brother out. Those people that they're, they're not intentional. They're waiting for someone else to come rescue them. Instead of just being intentional about all they do, I'm telling you this and let me just, lemme just bring this home because I don't want to, I don't want to make this longer than what it has to be When you are intentional. Like I said, it's not only going to simplify what you do, it's going to be bring clarity to what you do. You'll actually discover your why and let me, that sounds so cliche to say, you know, find your why. It's not, lemme tell you what a why is finding your why has got nothing to do with being able to explain it to someone else. Finding your why is being able to explain it to yourself. That's all it is. See when you can explain why you do, why you get up early in the mornings, why you work behind the scenes, why you do things without being ordered to do 'em. When you're constantly working on your craft, when you know why you're doing it, and you can explain that to yourself, that feeds into that intention. Just as a little bonus, you get lucky along the way too. But it wasn't because I was chasing luck. It's 'cause I'm locked in. See, when you do this, that's all I want you to do. Bring an intention, like what is it that you want to do? It strips out, it simplifies everything.'cause it strips out everything else It does. And so you, you now you're like, that's just bs. You know, I got to thinking this morning, like on the podcast, like there's all kind of different things you could do for an episode. You could write a Substack post, you could write a X thread, you could do a bunch of quotes, you could do a quote card, you could snip out video, you could do all that kind of different shit. It, but the intention is to get a message out in a short amount of time. This is what I read, this is how I interpret it. This is what I'm going to live today. That's it. It's that simple. And every time I get complex, I get scattered. Well, I could do this. Yes. Just because you can do everything doesn't mean you should. That's intention. And see, I'm just using that as a metaphor, but what does this apply to your life? In your faith, in your family, in your fitness, in your finances, in your fulfillment, both professional and creative fulfillment, what is the thing, man, that you, that you yearned for? Like you want, I want a result in this area. Bring an intention to it. You don't need anything extra. You don't need lesser hours of sleep. You don't need any of that. It's just when you're awake, bring that intention to it. Pay attention to the signal. Stay on track. Keep it simple. Keep it moving. Never settle. Stay tough. All right, let's get outta here. Peace.
